Dad's Stuff - Health & Fitness

We are well into the new year and the sun is shining!

Were you one of those one’s who made new year’s resolutions about your personal well being?  Was it to get fit, get healthy and/or lose some weight?

If you have, the main issue is to stay on track!  There are SO many of these resolutions that are broken SO quickly.  SO what do we think you can do to keep on track and stay focused?  It is pretty simple and focuses on 2 main items:

  1. Exercise
  • Find an exercise you enjoy doing.  This can be anything from running to playing indoor soccer.
  • It needs to incorporate some form of cardio to get your heart beating and blood pumping and strength work.
  • It should involve at least 30mins of strenuous exercise at least 4 times a week.
  • We think you should do a number of different type of exercises and obviously use a trainer who can keep you on track.
  1. Eat
  • Learn to love the food you eat.  Good food makes you feel good.
  • There are NO miracle diets, there are NO magical pills.
  • You ONLY need to eliminate the processed, highly saturated, fried foods from your “diet”.
  • Remember the cave man – they lived off the land.  Focus on eating wholesome, less-processed foods like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains.
  • And if you need help monitoring those calories refer to www.calorieking.com.

You need to remember it is IN v OUT.  If you consume too many empty calories and do not expend enough.  So you can employ all the various tactics you wish and have the best intentions but if you do not keep your eyes on the ball, stay on track and maintain the above your resolutions will end up being your end of year end of year disappointments.
